Columbia College. I find that kind of odd. Stan went to Mizzou and graduated from the business school and took some law classes.
Bud Walton (her father) was born in Oklahoma, his family moved to Springfield, Marshall, Shelbina, and Columbia.
As an adult he and his brother Sam Walton opened a franchised unit called Ben Franklin Shoes in Versailles.
Bud's other daughter, Nancy Walton Laurie grew up in Versailles where she met her future husband Bill Laurie. She went to the University of Memphis along with Bill, where he was on the basketball team and competed in the 1973 NCAA National Championship.
Bill and Nancy donated $25m to Paige Arena. Nancy owns the Columbia Performing Arts Center (dance studio) in Columbia.
The Lauries have the Clayton, MO-based private holding company Linco Bankshares, which lists Nancy Laurie as its President and Founder. As of March 2013, the company declared total assets of over $658 million.
They operate several subsidiaries of Lincoshare, including Providence Bank, which they bought for $35.7 million in 2007, named Bank of Lincoln County at the time of purchase. By 2010 the bank had increased its assets to $150.2 million.
In October 2010, the Lauries purchased Premier Bank in Jefferson City, worth $1.2 billion.
Bud's brother Sam graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia, as did Bud. He attended Mizzou. After leaving the military in 1945, he started a Ben Franklin store in Newport Arkansas. Then he opened a bunch of different stores all over and started Walmart.
