Even if he is 100% wrong we still need people like him actually discussing these issues. It is impossible to fix any problem unless you first directly identify the actual problem and any underlying issues.
Blaming racism is easy, convenient and allows the victims to avoid responsibility for their life choices. But does it do anything to actually make their lives, and the lives of their families, better?
I have worked in inner city schools for thirty years and seen way too many AA kids fail. But I have also seen a huge number succeed. Most of the successes had either two parent homes or a one parent home with an extended support system (church, family ECT.) but I did see some kids succeed that never should have. Those kids rejected the street culture, embraced their education and worked their ásses off to overcome obstacles I never could have. If we want at-risk kids to succeed then we need to help remove obstacles in their way not make excuses for their failures.
