This isn't an experiment. Japan is just one example. Even in the US, areas are seeing surging cases where there have been mask requirements for months.

It's time for a reality check for people. Containment of this virus is not possible at this point. That was over the minute it got out of Wuhan. The Kung Flu is going to have to run it's course at some point until we get to herd immunity. The best we can do is "flatten the curve", which is the strategy we embarked on from day 1. Any measures beyond that to "contain" the virus is just a waste of time and effort. And at some point, it makes it worse because it slows the process of getting to herd immunity.

And waiting for a vaccine is useless. There are no vaccines for coronaviruses. There is a reason we don't have one for the common cold, which is a type of coronavirus. Even the much touted flu vaccine is only moderately effective at best in a good year.
