Capricious and loving are not compatible, a loving God cannot be capricious too. Why does God intervene for some and not for others?

My problem is not the concept of prayer, i think everyone should talk to God in their own way. My issue is the belief that we are taught that God answers prayers but not all of them and not in ways that make sense to us. I find it much more comforting to believe that he does not answer prayers than than he does but only when the mood strikes him.
