but I have always questioned prayer and divine intervention. We are taught that the Christian God is omniscient which means he is aware of my suffering. We are also taught that he is loving but unless I or someone prays to him he will do nothing about that suffering. And even if someone prays to him he may or may not do anything about. That sounds arbitrary to me which is not loving in my book.
I have always subscribed to what I call my Ant Farm view of God. Just like a kid with an ant farm God cares about us and wants us to do well collectively. And just like an ant farm God has the ability to focus on a single on of us if he chooses but most of the time he is just focused on the bigger picture, how is the colony doing? He is not arbitrary or capricious it is just that individually we are usually beneath his notice.
Feel free to attack but this is a view I am comfortable with and it makes sense to me. I think the biggest gift we were given was free will and if God is always looking over our shoulder and intervening then we really don’t have free will at all.
