The college sports that were around before the pro sports are popular, the sports in which the pro sport pre-dates the college game are not. College football was quite popular well before pro football took off. Same for basketball. Soccer and baseball are the other way around.

And you clearly don't know much about college baseball or soccer or haven't watched either. College baseball is absolutely elite, especially at the SEC level. A number of players will spend only one summer, basically a glorified spring training, before getting to the big leagues.
