program does not mean he's the best guy we could hire. There are countless better coaches at mid majors right now just working their way up. Some are ready, some are not yet.

Crean would not be a disaster by any stretch, but our goal should be to be better than Tom Crean.

You are better off to hire the hot mid major coach and hope he hits it big.
There are 3 possible outcomes
1) he hits big and you are great
2) he fails and he is easy to fire
3) he is average. you aren't great, you're frustrated, but your coach is just good enough you can't reasonably fire him. You're stuck being middle of the pack.

Tom Crean is #3.
