He had a bad lapse in judgement but didn't do the necessary things to fix the problem because he didn't respect Kim. There were many players that first year that didn't respect Kim and thought he didn't deserve the job.

Kim's first team with Jones and Punter on it plus Frank coaching it would have been completely different. Not only in the players available but in the players' attitude towards the head coach. The lack of respect for Kim severely hurt his first year buy-in and probably cost Kim a handful of games that Frank would have won.
