performance, just pointing out that the fact that he played fewer minutes than the other bigs doesn't fit with quicksand's narrative.

Gant made progress throughout the year - much better late than early.

I also don't agree with what seems to be a general consensus that Puryear was a poor defender. It seems like a lot of people think "post defense" = "shot blocker" which is not at all true. And as much as I like advanced statistical measures and how they show how players impact a game, I really don't think they can do an adequate job of measuring defense.

Puryear really played good position defense to prevent post entry, but didn't challenge shots when his man did get the ball. Which is why he rarely was in foul trouble. Which is important in keeping your best offensive post in the game. Rebounding is an issue, though.
