Interesting article...who would have thought that Stull would have spawned such a prosperous coaching tree?
Interesting thought....what if you switched Pinkel and Stull, and Pinkel arrived in 1989 and Stull in 2001? How would the results be diffferent?
Given all the advantages Pinkel enjoyed (creampuff non-conference schedule, proliferation of wide-open offenses and decline of the power running game, first-rate facilities, dilution of talent through scholarship limits, etc.) I suspect Stull and his staff would have fared much better starting in 2001 than in 1989.
Likewise, given his early struggles with ugly losses to the likes of Bowling Green and Troy, I suspect given the handicaps present in 1989 Pinkel would have crashed and burned much like Woody and Stull. I've always felt that Pinkel was a little overrated.
Interesting to think about.
