I know this sounds mean but schools really need to evaluate why they are even offering sports. I realize that at the D3 level it is a student recruitment tool to keep the doors open. Basically paying to play. At UMKC or UMSL, not sure they need to worry about it as something that drives anything at their school. At a Mizzou, it just doesn’t matter if Mizzou has most of their sports. There’s just a handful that act to recruit students and keep boosters engaged at any scale.
Seems to me this whole thing may juice club sports. I don’t buy that men’s golf or cross country is anymore important to fund than club lacrosse or hockey. Women have Title 9 going for them but if you cut down on men’s sports, it would alleviate the need to come up with as many women’s scholarships. Again, go D3 or play a club sport. At Mizzou’s level, it’s professionalized entertainment and only that needs to be worried about in what they are offering, ideally.
