by transportation costs to get those goods to the US.
Bringing back cars building, steel manufacturing, heavy equipment, farm equipment, etc. can be very competitive with overseas manufacturing.
Vital security items, chips, computers, controls, etc. are assembly line production and also low in human labor. Facilities are being constructed to bring back such manufacturing now.
Those small light items - clothing, toys, shoes, hand tools, etc are where overseas has an advantage that will be difficult to overcome, let TEMU have that crap.
But it isn't about bringing back ALL manufacturing...get large manufacturing made here again, get security items made here and kept out of the hands of our competitors...doing that will create plenty of jobs and make this country self sufficient where it needs to be.
Do this and invest in trade schools including teaching those adults how to run their own business and we would have a bigger shortage of SKILLED labor, but the welfare rolls would, overtime, shrink.
