SMU ranked five spots ahead of Clemson, who it had just lost to and was trailing the entire game

SMU ranked ahead of Arizona State (not that it mattered for seeding purposes)

Clemson played two SEC teams and lost to them both, and one at home in their last game

SMU played a Big 12 team at home and lost (who Arizona State beat)

But the ACC deserved two bids????
