I can understand the argument for disqualification from office. Trump was impeached and received bi-partisan votes for conviction. That alone suggests there is some merit to the claim.
The Constitution is silent on how insurrection per the 14th Amendment is to be determined. It’s clearly not impeachment/conviction, which can also result in disqualification. There must be some other method.
You suggested a Senate trial, but that is fraught with partisanship as well. Maybe a SCOTUS ruling. I don’t see a good answer and I seriously don’t think the framers ever considered that an insurrection could be committed by a standing President.
My position is that I think it’s sad we have even come to consider such a question.
