made it impossible to compete. Nobody is going to hire private security firms when the police will do it "for free". Not sure why that's such a difficult concept for you.

And free markets don't fail. Intervention in free markets cause failures. The fact that you would even make that statement shows that you are not "far from being a socialist". You're even speaking their language.
