If a worker/volunteer isn't satisfied with an employer/organization's terms, then they can quit. Ultimately, *market forces* will determine whether or not the organization's terms are viable (not the government).
In the NCAA's case, amateurism worked because the market allowed it to work. A handful of players in each class went directly to pro leagues, but most players realized that *college sports* offered the most benefits, and that it was their right to quit (at any time) if they didn't like the eligibility requirements.
The fact is, college sports doesn't need those players. It will thrive regardless of who wears the jersey, because fans root for the name on the *front* not the back.
