He would have gotten an NCAA bid if Geist's flop hadn't been called. That's not his fault.
He would have gotten an NCAA bid if the tourney hadn't been cancelled due to COVID, with a top 4 finish in the SEC. That's not his fault either.
His only losing season there was his first year on the job, a complete rebuild from scratch without a bunch of elite players falling into his lap like CM had his first year (and btw, without those players, CM is about to have his 3rd losing season in 4 years).
Last but not least, MSU is a tough place to win. And head-to-head, Howland is 5-1 against Cuonzo (6-0 if that Geist flop hadn't been called).
