Florida State, Texas, Texas A&M and Arkansas.
Florida State and Texas said no. Arkansas said yes, Texas A&M while saying no due to pressure from Texas but privately wanting to join keep talking to the SEC for almost twenty years.
Arkansas was added as well as independent South Carolina.
It is the 2011 realignment that set the tone and tenor for this current realignment. Texas A&M divorced Texas and wanted in the SEC and was prepared to come alone. The SEC in the 2011 realignment was in serious discussion with Oklahoma but Oklahoma wanted Oklahoma State to come along as well which the SEC would not do.
The SEC having learned from the B1G about uneven scheduling with 13 members wisely added Missouri to round out the expansion.
Having Missouri in the SEC portfolio was key to acquiring Texas and Oklahoma.
The SEC is positioned to be dominant in a 32 NFL model or in four 16 team Super conferences.
