it's nothing more than a courtesy extended out of respect (or to help him save face) because their parents like him and/or because he's a coach of color.

You get the impression that they never seriously considered him — not because of MU, but because he lacks charisma, salesmanship, and the work ethic it takes to land top prospects. Recruit can sense when a coach has lost his passion for the game.

It's a shame Drink can't recruit for the BB program as well... he would clean house.
