practicing it. Since you've never been a practicing physicist, it's when you left college with your bachelor degree. And most people wouldn't consider an undergrad studying physics a physicist, but I'll use your very loose definition so as not to insult you.

A physicist is a profession. You've never had that as your profession. Considering yourself one because you teach it is asinine.

Your profession is teacher.
