Exactly. He showed great promise of more than just a banger. He was out most athletic player his entire time here. Rarely did another big beat him down the floor.
His shot was good enough to build upon. I know his FT shooting was bad. But, structurally his shot was good for a near 7 footer. Imagine if he had a little 15 ft pick and pop game? Instead of just a blind dive to the rim 100% of the time? Would have changed the entire offense. Imagine if bigs were forced to guard him at 15 ft bc he could hit that shot? What if he could hit an occasional 3?
They talked about his shooting last summer. And, even his shot from 3. We never saw it. I'm with you that it's on the player to develop these things. But, I don't think he was in an environment that really emphasized it.
