Heupel's a stud. His biggest weakness is recruiting.

But with the resources and traction of Tenn, look out.
Heupel was an immediate stud at Mizzou. Head coach Odom inhereted a dumpster. The players he had were from Pinkel's poor recruiting classes. It took Odom about 3 years before recruiting picked up due to methodically winning more each year. Heupel had already left Mizzou after year 2.
Heupel's first year at Mizzou was with true freshman Drew Lock at QB. The starting QB was kicked off team due to drugs. Lock was very green. Lock didn't have the skill to see the field. He literally only watched one side of the field. Towards the end of the year maybe and his second year --- the middle of the field then was added.
Despite all that, I think Mizzou averaged over 500 yards of offense per game.
Heupel's 2nd year saw increased winning with the more seasoned players. He didn't allow Lock to attend the Elite 11 camp. Lock needed to grasp the whole Heupel offense.
I gave Odom a 10 out of 10 for the Heupel hire in a previous post. If Odom & Heupel had stayed together at Mizzou & with recruiting going up...then you are looking at a new SEC power taking shape around 2020/2021.
Heupel, like Odom, ran a clean program...no worries.
