Given where you live, it's where you associate with geographically, in Missouri. That's how centralized we are. If you're in South of St. Louis, they're southern. And if you South of KC, it's the South and Texas and Ok. If you're KC or north of St. Louis, it's the farm belt. We just don't quite fit anywhere. I'm St. Louis which was split between the two conferences. I leaned SEC (hell we're all just wanting to get out of the Big 12/SWAC 2.0 and land well) because I thought it was the better conference and half my family was Southern (Columbia & Richmond - Kentucky and Tennessee Pioneers). I'd rather drive 8 hours south (Atlanta more or less) than 8 hours north (Minnesota) and I've done both. Well it's all relative isn't it?
