Almost everybody who contracts this virus recovers. Only a very small percentage require hospitalization and of them only a small percentage die. So the only deaths we prevented were a small number who would have needed medical care and would have been denied if our hospitals had been overwhelmed. See Italy.
Flattening the curve had little to do with reducing Covid deaths. It was about keeping our health care system functional so they could still provide standard care. We are still having heart attacks, strokes and cancers that are a much more serious health care crisis than a tricked out flu. Most of these are not being treated at this time. It is time we get back to those killers or the death count from this crisis will be staggering, but not from the virus.
