What others are trying to point it is more than suboptimal. While fewer people may die as you've described it, many, many more (up to 30 million people now) have their livelihoods ruined. They are alive, but they can't feed their family, pay mortgage/rent or get food because we just "flattened the curve".

It will take years to rebuild this economy and those livelihoods. The cure is now worse than the disease.
