However, I don't agree with using a gun to kill someone if you don't fear for life but said you did. I think that is an "extreme" thought that started this whole discussion. I'm not that ok with killing someone just because they meant harm.

Back to the original point, someone punches you in the arm and walks away, he meant harm. That doesn't mean you can kill them so the state doesn't back you up.
