by making it more complicated we are making our kids more stupid.
And you support that obviously.
And yes the whole point of math is to get correct answers with it.
In my parents day they were drilled. hard.
A game we would play on car rides would be to rattle off
a long string of additions and subtractions at the end of which my dad would give the answer at practically the same time as it ended.
For example 3+7-4+6-9+2+9+6-4
Dad: 16 Except much longer and we'd say it as fast as we could.
Today in the SUV 3+7-4+6-9+2+9+6-4
Dad: well 3 is less than 5 by 2 and 7 is 2 more than 5
so wait repeat that question
