The judge has no idea "WHY" the prosecution is apparently trying to put the squeeze on Manafort. It's the judge's opinion that they're tightening the screws, in order to get Manafort to play ball - while the judge may find that "distasteful", it's not the first time & it won't be the last.

The judge isn't privy to the Mueller team/grand jury's work on the overall investigation: he doesn't know if Mueller has something (or has nothing and is just fishing) on trump, on kush or on junior - and that's not this judge's role. His role is to hear the manafort case (and not speculate on the rest.)
