Derrick Cheivous was essentially 'positionless' by that definition, as was Albert White. MU at those times had a player that was very versatile in their skill sets and could do many different things on the court and operated outside the normal constraints of their position.
That is considerably different than setting out to build a roster that doesn't have positions, which won't work. If the conversation is about saying versatile players have value and we are mischaracterizing that concept as positionless basketball that isn't harmful at all.
