1. The Center is almost dead in college basketball and has terminal disease in the NBA.
2. The Small Forward has been dead in college basketball for 20 years now and is simply an additional Shooting Guard.
3. The Power Forward is no longer a post position and lives somewhere between yet another Shooting Guard and a traditional Small Forward.
4. The "true" Point Guard was an overvalued and misunderstood concept for a period of time, where people thought you had to have a guy like Chris Paul to be good. But even Chris Paul today is not what Chris Paul of 2008 was. You must have some guys who can handle the ball against pressure, but you do not have to have a single guy on the floor who will drive and kick to initiate offense. Having a couple of "combo" guards is sometimes better than having 1 "traditional" PG.
So, when you lineup looks like:
PG - SG - SG - SG - PF
or
SG - SG - SG - SF/PF - SF/PF
What the hell are your positions?
Almost everybody on here accepts or argues vehemently that Michael Porter Jr was NOT a Power Forward and was a wing player, yet he was going to be our defacto Power Forward before he was hurt.
As has been noted, some of the best players around are guys who can do multiple things. If you have 3 Lebron types, are you going to force each of them into their own separate box?
