I think the odds that the path of a newborn black child is going to be a far more difficult one than that of a newborn white child are very high. I don't believe that the fault for that can be attributed to either child.
Yes, the choices that they make as they travel down their respective paths have a tremendous influence on where they will end up and upon how difficult their life journeys will be, but I think that on average it will be far easier for the white child to make the best choices than it will be for the black child.
I'm obviously speaking in generalities here, but hopefully you know what I mean. Not all black children are going to be born into poverty, nor into single parent homes, and not all white children are going to be born into two parent, relatively stable families in safe neighborhoods with good schools.
I think that the major differences in their paths accounts for the vast majority of the probabilities as to the different outcomes. I also think that the reasons for the discrepancy in the paths they must travel are due to the decisions made by other people... their predecessors, government people, people in the society at large and their predecessors and prior governments... all of whose decisions impact people for generations.
