The living versus dead label is a poor choice of words.

When I was in HS we were taught it was a living document because it had the ability to be changed to adapt to modern needs. Sometime since then living has changed definition to mean we can interprete it to meet our needs. That is very different.

By the usage of today it is a dead document because it has a fixed meaning. But dead makes it sound like there is no way to change it. I understand the current meaning but don't think the connotations square with the actual meaning.
