downfield tackler comes in on a ballcarrier who maybe isn't up to speed yet, the tackler comes full on, doesn't slow down at all, the ball carrier makes a simple sidestep a 10 yr old could manage, tackler careens on harmlessly in the wrong direction and the ballcarrier proceeds unmolested.
