of religion as an end-game are what Paul is trying to get away from (e.g., diet and circumcision). These outward signs really mean little spiritually if taken by themselves and then are obviously not 'The Way'.
Paul sees many Christians use the physical perfections as an end-game and getting in the way for people getting closer to 'spiritual perfections'. So while he is fine with these practices if it helps the person mature spiritually, he denounces elsewhere for people using it as a way to glorify themselves or exclude others. Clearly glorifying oneself or excluding others are sins.
