In 1787, George Washington committed US military to fight Native American tribes in "The Northwest Indian War (1785–1795)" US military forces under Generals Josiah Harmar and Arthur St. Clair were badly beaten by Indian Tribes and Washington sent General "Mad" Anthony Wayne to defeat them. He led his men to a decisive victory at the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794.
This was done without Congressional approval or a Declaration of War.
