The CFP is driven by $$$. It will essentially follow the NCAA BB Tournament model and path. The number of teams will be expanded, the najor bowls will be merged with it to be quarterfinal games and the lesser bowls will become early round elimination games.
I.e. the Independence Bowl will generate more interest and a greater viewing audience as an early round elimination game between Mizzou and Florida than it will as a lesser bowl between Mizzou and Florida.
The CFP will start in early December and continue to roughly its current ending date.
There are three arguments against this model. Expansion of the CFP takes too much of the players times from school and the holidays; reduces the importance of the regular season (the key is get in the CFP, not win a conference championship) and the CFP becomes an endurance contest, i.e. can a team stay healthy. $$$ have a way of overriding those considerations.
