irrelevant to the OP -- as most of you words are simply defining what insurance is, which makes no sense in response to the OP.

It also focuses solely on the individual, which is odd.

In my area we had significant hail damage. Many are getting new roofs. Some aren't. But in my case home owners insurance has gone up.

The collective is paying for the new roofs.
