Both are ready to end it... on their terms.

Zelensky wants a temporary cease fire. They tried that before in the Minsk agreements & Ukraine & NATO used it as a very much needed respite while they rearmed and got more help and training from NATO. Then they crowed about how they had tricked Russia into the cease fire.

Russia learned their lesson. No ceasefire until a peace agreement is reached.

Putin reached out for a peace agreement in 2022, and Zelensky was ready to sign a tentative agreement, but he stupidly listened to NATO & the UK who told him not to do it.

Now he's faced with a significantly worse agreement and he's in no position to refuse. The longer he waits the more of his people die, the more the infrastructure of his country is destroyed and the worse the terms will be for a lasting peace agreement.
