The chance of reaching anything vaguely resembling a true peace agreement is essentially zero. Putin will not budge until he’s been made to suffer, which so far he hasn’t, and which cannot happen tomorrow. The risk, and the high stakes, rest with Trump’s craven and pathological vulnerability to obsequious flattery, a weakness that Putin will be more than well-prepared to exploit. Hopefully The World’s Greatest Negotiator will not sell out the brave Ukrainian people with a “deal” that inevitably subjects them to the so-called “peace” of Russian domination. But given Trump’s sociopathic narcissism I’m not optimistic.

God save Ukraine and its courageous people.
