Tornado siren is 3 houses away from us.

When we moved in I happened to be home during the monthly siren test. A buddy of mine with JOCO was responsible for siren maintenance.

Called him..."Jack, I got good news and bad news about the storm siren.....we're so close I will definitely know when it goes off. The bad news is the driver on it is blown and instead of a wail, all I could hear (and feel) was a low frequency vibration which shook my insides."

It needed a service call. Those older mecanical sirens actually had a motor to wind up and make the siren wail. They would get squirrels getting inside them through an air vent to build a nest. The siren would fire up and blow the nest (and any squirrels) out thru the driver.

Next month it went off without a hitch.
