As a huge fan of the NHL, here's my kneejerk analysis:

1. Repeat final. Not sure if there is data to support it, but we saw this movie last year.

2. Edmonton and Florida are long flights apart; not sure if they added days in the finals schedule for travel, but 2 day gaps between games is a real momentum/interest killer, even for me.

3. Florida, right or wrong in the end, is viewed as a heavy favorite and may have impacted interest


In general, I've said for years the season is tooooooo long by a good measure and they'd be well served to wrap it up by June 1. There's a lot of excitement in the early playoffs and it just goes on forever and people fall off.
