trade deficits hollow out the american economy if they aren't controlled. money flows out of the country. that money can then be used to buy american assets. smithfield foods as an example owns farmland industries, john morrell, eckrich, and many others in the food industry, smithfield itself is owned by china. 20% of the dow itself is owned by foreigners.
