Seems to me that it should lead to a reduction in scholarships needed to be required per sport (which would be great for boosters checkbooks) and a subsequent move to fewer varsity sports being offered since many don’t have enough value to a school’s mission or the sports entertainment industry. Also may kill March Madness and other NCAA events as they have been constructed as big leagues move to create their own content to sell to TV without a bunch of schools rushing in to get a piece of the NCAA/March Madness pie (mainly). This is why so many schools decided to move up to D1 anyway. Why stay D2 when you can make more being D1 and get March Madness money and leach off the bigger brands.
Bottom line, it’s time for the big leagues to cooperate on postseason play and hoard the money for themselves because they are going to need every dime for NIL payments, coaches, facilities and other expenses related to being valuable enough to be in the sports entertainment business.
Will be interesting to watch.
