current one) violates the principles you seem to be proposing.
You think that the criteria should be objective, which you define as winning a conference championship, and yet teams from power conferences obviously have teams in the playoffs that wouldn't meet that criteria.
On the other end, only the 5 highest ranked conference champions are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, but there are 10 conferences, so half of the conference champions are excluded from an autobid based upon the subjective rankings you reject.
I think the real difference between our preferences is that you are wanting to skew the results a bit in favor of teams in weaker conferences to give them a better chance at getting into the playoffs.
I can see the sentimental value in that, and an economic benefit in spreading the excitement around to more fans, more teams over a wider geographic area, but I think it will result in putting in teams from weaker conferences that aren't really up to the caliber of the others.
