Can't speak for Francis, but my guess is that he sibscribed to the theory that God's ability to forgive is absolute. ANd whether Judas found salvation would be determined by God, not by man. It would depend on Judas' relationship with God, and whether he repented his sins before death, jsut like the thief on the cross next to Jesus. By blessing the thief, Jesus wasn't saying it was ok to be a thief, but demonstating the power of forgiveness, and the path that is open through repentance and acceptance of Christ. Francis never thought it was his place to judge other people, not even Judas. He saw that as God's job.
