live the way you do.
“ As a realist I want me and my family/friends to live the best possible life without the slightest tinge of poverty or distress.”
That is not being a realist. It is a false premise that one cannot live the best possible life if they are poor. You are equating financial success with leading the best life. Yet I doubt you even have examined what that means. It hints strongly at an attempt of finding happiness externally through pursuit of materialism. If through economic turndown, illness or natural disaster, and what you have is gone, then you will suffer because of your belief on basing happiness on what is external to you. That doesn’t make you free, that makes you a slave.
Those studies you cite, based around tribalism, have a massive hole in them. They are based on people who live an unexamined life, not questioning what they believe to be true, the intellectually lazy. Trying to argue for status quo of tribalism is for the intellectually lazy.
Every single point you tried to make is a rejection of reason and based upon emotion.
You point to people having more empathy for people who they believe look like themselves. That is only mildly interesting but it is entirely superficial and a product of an individualistic society. The results aren’t the same for collectivist societies. It’s a product of implicit egotism of western culture. And it can be overcome through education.
Tribalism can be overcome through education as well as people can learn that they have commonalities with those of other “tribes”.
Who is in your tribe is still arbitrary. It could be a religion, a skin color, a nation, it shifts depending upon the circumstances. Someone may identify more closely with white people. Then when they go to church, they worship with black people and find commonality in their faith. And then when they go to war, they are fighting with others, Jews, Muslims, Hispanics for their country against an “enemy”. There is no objective tribe.
It takes reason to see this.
It’s a matter of whether or not you wish to live in ignorance. So far you are choosing ignorance, but you can choose otherwise, when you want to stop being a slave.
