College basketball is in decline because nobody stays with one team long enough to develop proper chemistry, develop the proper experience needed to go with the talent in order to be truly good, or for fans to really get to know the players well enough to become invested.
In college basketballs heyday, you not only knew all of the players on your own team, you knew all of the players on every team in your conference, and you had a pretty decent working knowledge of all of the players on all of the contending teams across the country.
College players are with any given coach for such a short period of time now that the only thing the coach is ever able to work on is the ABC of college basketball, the team is never together long enough to ever get to the XYZ which is why the quality of play is so poor these days. The experience is never equally paired with the talent to generate actual greatness.
Mizzou’s season this year is one very visible embodiment of the current state of college basketball. The collection of players we have is not this bad, but there is absolutely zero chemistry and nobody will be together long enough to develop any chemistry.
