States can and should do many things on their own, but what the states do cannot supersede the Constitution.

Let me ask you this. If the state of Missouri's legislature passed laws reinstating slavery and also removing female voting, and the MO Supreme Court for some reason upheld it, would the SCOTUS have reason to step in and uphold US law? And the answer is an obvious yes.
