And if I'm wrong about any of this please correct me-
I remember the newspaper covering 5 candidates for the head coaching position after Powers was fired. I don't remember all of them but my recollection was that both Bobby Ross and John Cooper were on the list (as well as Woody). However, our board of curators required that the hire be approved by committee (I don't remember if it was a separate committee or the board themselves) and it wouldn't be meeting for a period of time that would interfere with the new coach's ability to recruit players...so the best candidates (wisely) took themselves off the list and we were left with Widenhofer.
