I was told by somebody I trust that this is correct. Several big boosters were threatening to pullback giving if Pinkel was retained. That tweet was devastating as was his staff involvement (Pat Ivy). They probably miscalculated that MU could make another solid hire and keep on ticking but there was a lot of ****ed off people who had given a lot of money only to be told to check their white privilege, they were racist and to basically F off by the people who had benefitted from their giving. Not a great relationship builder and highly divisive. Pinkel was put in a **** sandwich.
